Resumes

Using only one piece of paper, please tell me why you think you’re worth thousands of dollars…

Was His License Plate

There are plenty of hucksters out there willing to sell you a resume template or even write your resume for you.  Don’t let them.

There’s no doubt that besides your will, the most important document you will ever prepare is your resume.  Especially your first resume!  At least, until you marry Willie Nelson. (Prenup!)

I am not a resume expert, a certified resume writer, or a resume “guru” (yuck!).  I’m just a millennial who’s helped a lot of other millennials become gainfully employed.  I’m also a guy who talks on a regular basis with HR professionals about what they want to see in a candidate’s resume.  Just so you know I’m on the level with all this free advice, I’ve posted my resume on the Internet for anyone to see.

I’ve created some outlines based on my experience as a millennial job seeker as well as tips that I’ve gathered from reliable sources on what they want to see from millennial and gen-x job hunters. I’ve segmented them into the following categories:

  • Resume Basics – just the basics to get you warmed up.
  • Resume Creation – for those who are starting over or who have never created a resume before.
  • Resume Updating – for those who are updating their existing resumes and need some tips.
  • Resume Resources – places with additional information regarding resumes.

This is something I constantly update.  I’ve opened up comments on all of the pages – if I’ve forgotten something or you think it’s wrong, feel free to comment on that page and let me know!
