There are plenty of hucksters out there willing to sell you a resume template or even write your resume for you. Don’t let them.
There’s no doubt that besides your will, the most important document you will ever prepare is your resume. Especially your first resume! At least, until you marry Willie Nelson. (Prenup!)
I am not a resume expert, a certified resume writer, or a resume “guru” (yuck!). I’m just a millennial who’s helped a lot of other millennials become gainfully employed. I’m also a guy who talks on a regular basis with HR professionals about what they want to see in a candidate’s resume. Just so you know I’m on the level with all this free advice, I’ve posted my resume on the Internet for anyone to see.
I’ve created some outlines based on my experience as a millennial job seeker as well as tips that I’ve gathered from reliable sources on what they want to see from millennial and gen-x job hunters. I’ve segmented them into the following categories:
